HotelTonight – Petworth Washington, D.C. Hotels
Everyone in the world is basically familiar with what makes Washington, D.C. famous. It's the capital of the United States, it's the home of western democracy and it's filled with history and sites that you have to see to truly understand. I have visited this beautiful place many times and have always enjoyed it immensely. However, in recent years I wanted to get to know the other side of Washington, D.C. That side consists of the people who live here and the neighborhoods that form the complete picture that is this community. On recent work trips, I've been staying there for an extra day and doing just that. I've been choosing one neighborhood to explore per trip and spending the entire 24 hours there. That gives me time to comfortably look around and avoid feeling any time pressure. On my last trip, I chose to explore the Petworth neighborhood. I hadn't ever been there to my knowledge and wanted to see what it was all about. I wasn't concerned about lodging, either, as I travel with the HotelTonight app. I'd be able to find a Petworth Washington, D.C. hotel when I was ready.
The Community Market
I happened to be there on a Saturday, and I was lucky for that. That's because during the warmer months Petworth has a community market every Saturday that's sort of like a farmer's market but yet so much more. This is a complete community gathering. Yes, there is a lot of beautiful produce and the like you can purchase, but there are also street performers, arts, crafts and a lot of talking and laughing together. It's completely obvious that this is a community that cares about each other and works together to make life as fulfilling as possible.
The Shops
I'm not usually much of a fan of shopping, but that's because I don't like crowds and I tend to avoid unnecessary bustle. However, if I lived in Petsworth I'd probably love shopping, as it's an entirely different experience here. The shops are mostly small and owned by local families, and the products offered are unique whether you're talking about clothing, knickknacks, art or just about anything else you could imagine. I walked through dozens of them on that day and wound up buying more things than I thought both for myself and for others.
The Food
After all of that walking around, I was more than hungry. I asked some locals about where I should eat, and they told me about this pizza place that started out I a truck but that became so popular that it moved into a commercial space. As soon as I took my first bite, I understood how this could have happened. The crust was crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, the sauce was sublime and the cheese was perfectly fresh.
