HotelTonight – Georgetown Washington, D.C. Hotels
If you've never explored Washington, D.C., you're missing out on a city that is filled with wonder and intrigue. If you've explored Washington, D.C. by spending a couple of days visiting all of the monuments and historical sites that form the center of government there, you've seen a lot of great things. You haven't really seen the entire city, though, as there is a whole separate layer of this unique community that forms the foundation of Washington, D.C. I have been systematically learning more about this place in recent years. When I travel here for work, I extend my trip by 24 hours so that I can learn a bit more about it. I choose one neighborhood in which to spend those 24 hours so that I don't have to worry about time or schedules. On my most recent trip, I chose to spend those extra 24 hours in Georgetown. I couldn't wait to see what life was really like there. As for accommodations, those could wait, as I travel with HotelTonight. The European Feel
One would think that when you're in the capital of the United States, you're going to feel like your surroundings are distinctly American in nature. When you're in Georgetown, that's not how you feel at all, or at least that's not how I felt. I may as well have been in some type of beautiful European city. The sidewalks are made of cobblestone. There's a canal here that cuts right through the neighborhood and the buildings all seem to fit together like they would in some other part of the world. It was all at once surprising and beautiful.
The Shopping
Another surprise that I encountered in Georgetown was the fact that this is a mecca for those who love to shop. M Street is famous for its retail establishments, and there are a lot of world-renowned brands here that you can choose from if that's your thing. Personally, I like the smaller stores that not only offer unique products but that seem to come with that little extra sense of caring. I spent hours walking through small store after small store and wound up purchasing quite a few things both for myself and for others in my life.
The Cuisine
A neighborhood this beautiful and cosmopolitan would have to be home to a lot of eating choices, and Georgetown certainly fits that bill. I was told about a seafood place that sits right on the river, and I decided to have dinner there. I had the sea bass and the steamed vegetables. The fish flaked up right on the fork and was full of flavor, and I was sure that the vegetables had been picked that day. It was a meal to remember.
