HotelTonight – Downtown Louisville Hotels
Louisville, Kentucky is a unique city in a lot of different ways. It is where the north meets the south, so historically it's been a place where people with differing ideas and backgrounds came together as one community. It's filled with history and traditions, and it's been home to some legendary figures. I've always been intrigued by Louisville for some reason, and lately I've been traveling there for work on a somewhat regular basis. I've found that I haven't been able to see much of it, however, as I'm quite busy with work obligations while there. On my last trip, I decided to do something different. I booked my return flight for 24 hours after my work obligations were finished. I wanted to take 24 hours for myself to explore downtown Louisville, as doing so would give me a better idea of what life in this city was all about. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay, either, as I always travel with my trusty HotelTonight app. I would simply open it and book a downtown Louisville hotel room in a matter of seconds when I was ready to get some sleep.
Museum Row
One of the first things I wanted to visit while in downtown Louisville was Museum Row, as it's called by the locals. In fact, one of the things that I noticed almost immediately was that there seemed to be more locals here than visitors. There were at least 7 or 8 different museums here, including ones dedicated to science, history and even local legend Muhammad Ali. I spent hours looking at different exhibits and talking to people who apparently like to spend time in this part of town taking in all of this history and culture. I found that interesting.
The Shopping
Downtown Louisville is a mecca for shopping. I'm usually up for shopping, and I was quite impressed by the number of options available here. You'll see plenty of options for the big, worldwide retailers if that's how you prefer to do things, but I was more intrigued by some of the local shops that were here. I spent quite a bit of time browsing them and talking to the people who worked at and owned these places. Retail is a big part of the economy in downtown Louisville, and the folks here are always happy to see visitors come around.
The Dining
I also saw a lot of options for dining, and decided that I wanted something traditional. I was told about a place that featured southern fare, and I went in ready to eat big. I was more than satisfied with what they served. I had fried chicken and grits that were out of this world, and I don't think I've ever been so full in my life. It was a delightful dinner.
