HotelTonight – Great Hotels Outside of San Antonio
San Antonio is one of my favorite cities in the country. It boasts a rich, diverse culture, beautiful historic sites and a lively energy. After recently spending an entire week in the city, I decided to venture a bit outside of the city and get to know the surrounding areas of San Antonio. After all, locals had explained to me that there was still so much to do and see in the suburbs and just outside the city limits. So I hopped in my car and headed away from the heart of San Antonio. To book a hotel outside of San Antonio at a moment's notice, I simply checked my HotelTonight app. I had used HotelTonight to find a great hotel in San Antonio, so I thought it could also help me find the perfect hotel for the next leg of my Texas adventure – and I was right! HotelTonight helped me find a great hotel just outside of Alamo City in no time.
Small Towns
There are countless small towns scattered around San Antonio, and visiting any of these small towns will give you a great feel for what life is like in small town Texas. There's a certain character and charm you'll find in these small towns that you can't find in bigger cities like San Antonio and Austin, which is why they're well worth a visit, in my opinion. I stopped in a few small towns just outside of Loop 1604, including Medina, Floresville and Pleasanton.
The Comal River
The Comal River in New Braunfels is a well-known attraction among Texans, as locals flock to the river in droves when the Texas summer heat inevitably hits. Since I happened to be in Texas in the beginning of summer, when the days are long and hot, I decided to check out this local watering hole (a literal watering hole!) for myself. The favorite thing to do in the Comal River is to grab a tub and just mosey on down the river, so that's exactly what I did. It was a small slice of paradise in the middle of Texas.
Caves and Canyons
The surrounding natural landscape of San Antonio is unique and fascinating, and during my adventure in the surrounding area of San Antonio, I explored both massive caverns and gorgeous canyons. There are two popular cavern destinations near San Antonio: Cascade Caverns and Natural Bridge Caverns. There are also breathtaking canyons at the Paradise Canyon Recreational Park and the Government Canyon State Natural Area. San Antonio is surrounded by natural wonders, so I'd definitely recommend heading outside of the city to get a dose of nature's wonder.
