HotelTonight – Dumbo Brooklyn Hotels
There are so many attractive and interesting aspects to New York City that it would be impossible to list them all in one place. This is an enormous metropolis but also a community all at the same time. This is a gigantic cultural center yet a place where you'll find traditional values that have been around for generations. One thing that happens across New York is that it is in many ways constantly redefining itself. I've seen that happening since I started traveling there around 20 years ago when I got into the working world. What I saw then is nowhere near what I see these days. On my last trip, I wanted to take a closer look at a neighborhood I had heard a lot about. Dumbo in Brooklyn was generating a lot of buzz from my New York colleagues, so I managed to carve out 24 hours for myself to go and see it one day. I wasn't concerned about lodging, either, as I had my HotelTonight app with me. I'd book a Dumbo Brooklyn hotel room as soon as I was ready to call it a day.
The Cobblestone
I have traveled all over the world, and I think that whenever I notice cobblestone streets, I feel like I'm somewhere in Europe. I realize that you'll find cobblestone all over the world, but I didn't expect to see so many cobblestone streets in Dumbo. Brooklyn is not a place I would have guessed was home to that type of look. Yet, cobblestone streets were everywhere, and the streets were also quite narrow to give it even more of a European feel. It really fit well with the architecture that I saw as well. This is a neat neighborhood.
The Architecture
Dumbo is definitely a community that has redefined itself in recent years. One of the first things you notice when you walk around on this cobblestone is that the majority of the buildings look like old warehouses and other types of large commercial buildings. That's because most of them were just that at one time. However, almost all of these buildings have now been refurbished to the point where people are living in them and others are opening businesses in them. It's as if the foundation of an industrial area has become something completely different right in front of people's eyes.
The Pizza
Despite its eye towards the present and future, Dumbo has managed to hang on to some of its past. This is especially true with its pizza joints. I stopped into one that I heard about earlier that day, and it was the perfect New York pizza kind of dinner. The crust was thin and tasty, the slices were wide and they just needed to be folded over for easier eating. I must have had at least five or six slices, which was way too much but impossible to turn down.
