HotelTonight – Monterey Bay-Seaside Hotels at the Drop of a Hat
Until I actually drove up and down the coast of California, I assumed that it was all along the Pacific Ocean. While there are hundreds of miles of ocean-side roads to be enjoyed by all motorists, there are also a lot of other bodies of water that are there to be seen and appreciated. One of my favorite stretches of road in that part of the world is Monterey Bay, as it's a bit different from the ocean in terms of its look and it's also dotted with a lot of different communities that have always looked inviting to me. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to stop and see any of them because I was always on my way to some meeting or another. I told myself that it was still a positive to see the area even from the driver's seat. On my last drive through there, I found out that my day was suddenly wide open. Rather than continue to my destination, I decided to stop in a place called Seaside. The Coastline
It may sound strange to want to see the same coastline I've been looking at for years from my car first, but that's exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to see it up-close and personal instead of from a bit of a distance. I'm glad I did that, as it gave me a new appreciation for what I had been looking at. When you can hear the surf pounding the rocky shore, smell the water in the atmosphere and feel and even hear the wind whipping onto the land, it's a worthwhile experience.
The Parks
After visiting the coastline, I wanted to continue with my outdoor theme for the day, so I visited a few of the gorgeous parks that are all over Seaside. These parks seemed like any others on the surface, what with the playground equipment and the like, but they were so beautiful that I could imagine spending days here with my children and never getting tired of them. There were different parks every few blocks, and all of them that I saw had some sort of vantage point to the coast. It was remarkable to see.
The Dining
For some reason, I felt like pizza for dinner, and a nice couple in one of the parks told me about a local place that had earned a loyal following. I decided on that and was taken a bit aback by the fact that it looked like a place out of the 1950's. The pizza itself was outstanding. I love a crispy and thin crust, and that's exactly what I got. The cheese was perfectly proportioned and the toppings popped with flavor and texture. I ate more than I should have, but it was worth it.
