HotelTonight – Germantown Memphis Hotels Are Available
Memphis, Tennessee is a united and welcoming community. It's always been that way in my experience, and I've been coming here for many years. It's a big city with a lot of history and diversity as well. What that means to me is that whenever I explore a new part of town, it seems like I've somehow traveled to some other place. The vibes are different in different neighborhoods. The culture is somewhat different. The look of these neighborhoods is a bit different. Yet somehow, it all comes together as one Memphis. That's one of the many things that I love about this city that sits on the Mississippi River. That's also why I've been making it a point to explore one neighborhood for 24 hours every time I come here for work, which is relatively often. On my last trip there, I decided to explore the Germantown neighborhood. I wanted to see what it was like to live there. I wanted to talk to the people there. I had no concerns about accommodations, either, as I had my HotelTonight app. It would find me a Germantown Memphis hotel room as soon as I needed one.
So Close Yet So Far
What you see when you're in downtown Memphis is a big city on a big river with all that comes with it right there in your face. If you travel just a bit up the road into Germantown, you see something completely different. This seems like a planned community that has put a lot of emphasis on home ownership, small businesses and a vibe that says that every day is going to be a great day. I could feel that as I walked around, and I heard that time and time again as I spoke to people there.
The Outdoors
In any residential neighborhood, you should expect that at least some space will be reserved for outdoor activities. In Germantown, they take that extremely seriously. There were all sorts of parks around the community, and I've always felt that you could get a good feel for a place based on its parkland. The parks here--I walked through two of them--were extremely well maintained and large. People were all over the place just playing with their kids and their pets having a grand old time. It was a scene from Americana if there ever was such a thing.
The Shopping
I've never been a big fan of shopping, but that's mostly because I dislike crowds, a lot of noise and general bustle. Thankfully, I found a nice little shopping area in Germantown that was the opposite of all of that. There were little family-owned shops dotting the landscape, and I walked through quite a few of them searching for gifts. It wound up being another opportunity to talk to people, as these are the types of establishments where that sort of thing happens.
