HotelTonight – Cheesman Park Denver Hotels
Denver is one of those cities that means something a bit different for everyone who is there. It's home to millions of people and for many has been for several generations. It's a destination spot for millions of others who love to get out into the mountains but who still want to experience a bit of that city life. For still others, like me, it's a place that's always fun to explore. I have been coming to Denver regularly for work for years, but it was only recently that I came up with an idea to learn more about it. That idea consisted of scheduling my return flight for 24 hours after my work obligations were finished. I also realized that trying to squeeze as much as possible into 24 hours in a city this size was not a good plan, so when I'm here for a day I choose one neighborhood and spend the day there. On my most recent trip, I decided to explore the Cheesman Park. I hadn't been there before, so I was excited to learn more about it. The History
One of the first things I learned about Cheesman Park was its unique history. This area used to be a cemetery, but around 100 years ago the mayor at the time wanted to create more space. He hired a friend to remove the bodies that were buried there and a park was built in its place. It was clearly controversial at the time, but over the decades the issue has subsided a bit and these days you wouldn't really know much about this unique past.
The Park
Despite the controversy surrounding its creation, one thing that cannot be argued is that the park that resulted from all of this is nothing short of stunning. It's huge, it's incredibly green and it provides views of the city and a dose of fresh mountain air that cannot be matched. I walked around on some of the trails for a while, gazing at the mountains that surround the area and watching as people played with their dogs and their kids or just took it easy by soaking up the sunshine and appreciating where they were. It was a lovely park.
The Food
After all of that fresh air and walking around, I was good and hungry. Before I left the park, I asked a nice-looking couple about where I could go for a really good local dinner. They told me about a pizza place that the folks there all love, so that's where I went. It was a good recommendation. The crust was thick and made in the style of Chicago pizza, and the sausage used had a seasoning on it that I wish I could somehow replicate.
