HotelTonight – West Side Green Bay Hotels Are Available
Green Bay, Wisconsin is a very interesting place. There are two parts of town here, and they are separated by the Fox River. The locals call these parts of town the "West Side" and the "East Side." Before anyone gets the wrong idea, it doesn't take long to go between these two parts of town, as there are only 100,000 residents. Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a day on the West Side, and I enjoyed it to the fullest. Thanks to my favorite travel app, HotelTonight, I found a West Side Green Bay hotel room in a matter of minutes. It doesn't take long to get to any point in Green Bay, so as soon as I dropped off my things I launched myself into my day of exploration. There was a lot to remember and I cannot wait to return someday.
The Landscape
For centuries--yes, centuries--this part of Green Bay was mostly farm land. You can still see remnants of that era in history as quite a few random pieces of land between developments are still rural in nature. You also notice the soft, rolling hills and the trees that tend to sit at the top of these hills as quasi landmarks for people. I even saw a few abandoned silos, which I've always found quite beautiful. The point is that this is a city that has a lot of time under its belt, and this part of town may be the younger portion of Green Bay, but it hasn't buried its past.
The Hamburgers
Green Bay takes its hamburgers seriously. So seriously, in fact, that Seymour, Wisconsin, which is only about 15 miles outside of Green Bay, claims that it is the birthplace of the hamburger. Regardless of the accuracy of that claim, people here believe it. I went to a burger joint, and it was like a blast from a bygone era. Big leather booths surrounded old kitchen-like tables. Waitresses in polyester aprons and name tags came and took your order. The place I went to specialized in butter burgers, fried cheese curds and chocolate malts. I went with all three, and I was actually quite glad that I did. What a meal The burger buns were roasted and crunchy, the soft butter melted in your mouth and everything else was sublime.
The Green Bay Packers
You can't spend time on the West Side of Green Bay without taking in Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers. No NFL team has won more championships than the Packers, and Lambeau Field is a true shrine for sports lovers. There's also a Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame across the street with interactive exhibits that are fun for people of all ages. I would strongly suggest taking a tour of Lambeau Field and then heading across the street, as it'll bring you back to a different time.
