HotelTonight – Great Hotels in Downtown Boston
From its storied past to its vibrant modern flair, the city of Boston is one of the most interesting cities in the country, and it's certainly one of my favorite cities to visit. There's a good reason why Boston locals are so proud of and loyal to their city--it's full of history, tradition and culture, and I made it my mission to experience the heart and soul of this fascinating city during my recent trip to Boston. Since I love to stay in vibrant, walkable neighborhoods when visiting a city, I worked with HotelTonight to book a last-minute hotel in the center of downtown Boston. With a hotel room waiting for me in one of the best areas in Boston, I got ready to explore this beloved New England city.
The Freedom Trail
Many of Boston's most important historic monuments and sights are found downtown along the Freedom Trail, a path that winds through Boston's historic neighborhoods and leads you through the story of the American Revolution. During my first morning in downtown Boston, I spent a few hours walking along the Freedom Trail, admiring the impressive monuments and learning more about the nation's history. Some of the sights I came across during my walk included Park Street Church, the Old State House and the Old Corner Bookstore.
The Theatre District
It's my personal opinion that every great city should have a strong arts scene, and Boston certainly has a vibrant, flourishing art scene, especially when it comes to the performing arts. Boston's Theater District is located downtown, and it comes alive at night, when locals and visitors alike flock to the neighborhood to enjoy everything from comedy shows and dance performances to opera and popular Broadway musicals. I was lucky enough to be in Boston during the summer, when the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company puts on free Shakespeare performances on the Common. Watching an exceptional Shakespeare production outdoors on the famous Boston Common is easily one of my favorite memories from the trip.
The Waterfront
Part of Boston's beauty and charm comes from its waterfront, and the Boston Harbor is a sight to behold--it's grand, impressive and full of ships, barges and boats. If you want to take in the harbor like a local, I'd recommend strolling along the Boston Harborwalk, which winds along the waterfront, giving you spectacular views of the harbor and of the downtown skyline. Also, there are a number of great restaurants and cafes near the waterfront, where you can sit down, relax and enjoy the picturesque scenery in front of your eyes.
HotelTonight – Downtown Boston Hotels at Your Fingertips
There are few cities in the U.S. as unique and as beautiful as Boston, Massachusetts. This city is steeped in history, but it also boasts an exciting modern energy that will draw you in immediately. Even if you only have a day or two in Boston, you will still be able to get a great sense of the city if you look at it through the eyes of a local rather than a tourist. I know I'll be back in Boston some day soon, and when I do return, I'll be sure to wander its streets like a local and book my accommodations through HotelTonight.
