HotelTonight – Fells Point Baltimore Hotels Near You
Like any larger city, there are a lot of different components that combine to form what is Baltimore, Maryland. There are modern struggles, futuristic plans that are starting to come together, traditions that are unique to anywhere else in the United States and a lot of history. That's one of the things that I think sets Baltimore apart from most other cities in the country: the history that you can find here and enjoy even to this day. I've been coming to Baltimore for some time now because my job takes me here regularly, and since I'm a history buff I've never found a shortage of things in which to be interested in the Charm City. Unfortunately, I've rarely had time to go and explore the area as I've always been working. On my last trip, I decided to take an extra 24 hours to come home and explore the Fells Point neighborhood, one of the most historic in Baltimore. I wasn't concerned about lodging, as my HotelTonight app would find me a Fells Point Baltimore hotel, as soon as I was ready to call it a day and get some rest.
The Buildings
There is so much history in Fells Point it's hard to see it all even if you don't leave the neighborhood for a day. The neighborhood itself is a National Historic District and over 150 buildings are registered as historic places. There are tours that take you to many of the historic homes here, but I chose to wander around myself and read the information I could find. The area was established in 1763, and Fells Point is home to the oldest standing Baltimore home, the Robert Long House. It's a lovely row house that was built in 1765. Yes, things are that old here.
The Shopping
If you want to take a trip back in time, go shopping in Fells Point. There are dozens of little stores and boutiques here, and each of them seems to have a lot of character. I strolled through several of them that day and wound up picking up several different knickknacks and the like for my home. I also bought quite a few small gifts for the important people in my life, as I simply couldn't resist bringing all of this history and charm back to my friends and loved ones.
The Cuisine
Fells Point is located on the water, so that means that they know their seafood here as well. I was in the mood for a local delicacy, which was the blue crab. I was told about a place that the locals swear by, and it was a bit out of the way. I found it, though, and feasted on these tasty, tangy little crabs that take some work to enjoy, but that work is more than worth it when that soft crab meat melts in your mouth. I had a lot of fun making such a delicious mess.
