HotelTonight – Carrollton New Orleans Hotels
New Orleans, Louisiana is a special place for a large number of people. Those who live there are filled with pride as you walk around their hometown and ask them about certain things. Those who visit there are filled with joy when they recall what it's like to spend a few days there soaking up the atmosphere. Those who have read about it or seen stories about it on television tend to want to go there to see what all of this is about. I have been to New Orleans many times, and I've never had anything but a great time visiting. However, I've been wanting to get to know New Orleans on a deeper level for some time now, and recently I came up with a plan to do just that. I've been traveling there and dedicating 24 hours of my trip to a specific neighborhood before moving to the next one. It allows me the opportunity to relax and experience a place for what it is. On my most recent trip, I chose to get to know Carrollton. I wasn't worried about lodging, as I'd have my HotelTonight app find me a Carrollton New Orleans hotel room as soon as I needed one.
The Campuses
When you get out of your car in Carrollton, you almost feel as though you've stepped into a college town. That's because Tulane University is right here as is Loyola University. Each of these campuses is gorgeous and surprisingly large, and I spent quite a bit of time walking through both of them, talking to students and staff members. Both schools feel like independent communities inside of a large city, but the students I spoke to enjoy getting out into the city from time to time to have fun.
The Shopping
I'm not normally much of a shopper. I don't like crowds, stress and jostling through people to try to get my hands on some deal. I prefer to do my shopping online and from the comforts of my own home. That said, the shopping in Carrollton was completely different. The stores were almost exclusively small and family-owned. The shopkeepers were incredibly welcoming and polite, and not pushy at all. They told me that the way they treat their customers is the way that people in general are treated in Carrollton: with respect.
The Dining
I wanted nothing but traditional Louisiana food for dinner, and Carrollton presented more than one option. I decided on a place that had been in operation for generations and the dinner there was tremendous. The shrimp was perfectly fresh and tasty, the gumbo was sublime and the seasoning on everything tasted as though it had been grown right outside in a nearby garden. I ate more than I should have but did so almost without thinking about it.
