HotelTonight – River Falls Hotels
Wisconsin is a state with thousands of little hamlets that dot the landscape, and it seems that just about every one of them has its own unique story to tell. I've been traveling through Wisconsin for years for work, and I have usually made it a point to take advantage of any opportunity to see a new town whenever possible. Not too long ago, I was traveling in the western part of the state when I found out that my schedule had completely opened up for the following 24 hours. I wanted to see another small town in this part of Wisconsin. I hadn't been to River Falls, and I saw a sign that told me it wasn't far away from where I was. That was it – I was going to spend 24 hours there exploring a new place and meeting new people. I couldn't wait to get started, as it's fun for me to see what it's like to live in some of these places. I also wasn't concerned about lodging. The Bridge
One of the first things I noticed about River Falls, a town of fewer than 15,000 residents, was that there was a lot of nature surrounding it. I heard about something called a swinging bridge, so I went to go see it. It's an old wooden suspension bridge that runs over a waterfall through the woods. Apparently, a mill used to operate there but it shut down and the bridge remained. At the end of the bridge I came upon a park that was loaded with families. Children were playing, dogs were running and people were talking among each other. It was a lovely scene all around.
The Wine
When I think of Wisconsin and what it produces, I think of beer, sausage, cheese, great beef and fish fries. I do not think about wine. Perhaps after my trip to River Falls I will do so. I found a winery not far off the beaten path, and I went in to take a look. The workers there were extremely friendly. They gave me a glimpse into how they make their wine there. Of course, they also let me taste a few of them, and that led me to purchase a few bottles to give to family and friends.
The Dining
In Wisconsin, it's common for a local bar to also have one of the best dinner menus in town. I had heard this was the case in River Falls, so I went to a local joint that didn't look like much from the outside. It was cheeseburger night, so I ordered two of them and some fries. It was a good move. The burgers were made perfectly and the cheese was oozing off of the patty. The bun was crispy, the toppings were crisp and the fries were delectable. It was a nice experience.
