HotelTonight – Pewaukee Hotels

In most states across the country, I find myself driving between big cities on highways and interstates and passing town after town, never really giving any of them much of a thought. If I stop in any of them, it's generally for gas or perhaps for a quick bite to eat at some sort of national chain restaurant that I recognize and that I can see from the highway. I was doing the same sort of thing recently when I was driving from Milwaukee to Madison, Wisconsin. I got a call just as I was leaving Milwaukee that my meetings for later that day in Madison had been canceled. Suddenly, I found myself with 24 hours to use for myself. I could've continued on to Madison or turned back to Milwaukee, both lovely cities. Instead, I decided to spend that time in one of these towns that I had passed through so many times. I saw a sign for Pewaukee. I wanted to learn more about it. I pulled into town and immediately realized this was where I'd spend my day. I would book a Pewaukee hotel room later that night with my HotelTonight app. It was time to explore.

The Winery

The last thing I expected to encounter when I started my day in Pewaukee was a winery. Wisconsin is known for beer, cheese, sausage and many other consumables, but wine is not one of them. Given my surprise, I had to stop and see what this place was all about. The winery was quite small, but it was quaint and the owners were working that day. They were extremely friendly. They explained how they make their wine and they helped me find a few bottles to take home to my friends and family. It was a neat experience.

The Beach

My day of surprises continued with my trip to the beach, which is yet another thing I would never have expected to encounter in a city in Wisconsin with fewer than 15,000 residents. Pewaukee sits on Pewaukee Lake, which is a sizable body of fresh water. There's a very nice, albeit somewhat small, patch of sandy beach on its shores, and I walked around a bit and talked to some people who were out there enjoying the sun. The lake is home to countless water skiers, fishing boats and jet skis, and everyone I spoke to that day lived nearby. This is quite a hidden little haven.

The Dinner

Fortunately for me, I didn't have to go far for dinner. Some nice people at the beach told me about a tavern right on the water that was known for its memorable pizza. I made my way over there and ordered a deluxe. I could not believe they were able to pile so many toppings onto such a thin and crispy crust. Once again, I looked around as I devoured this delicious pie and noticed a roomful of locals enjoying their meals. This was quite a dinner.

Overly full and completely happy, it was time to call it a day. I opened my HotelTonight app on my phone and booked a Pewaukee hotel room in seconds. I think I fell asleep as soon as I got there, and I was happy to have seen life in this beautiful little town.
