HotelTonight – Rutland Hotels at the Ready
Every now and then, I like to take the back roads between destinations. When you drive basically every day as I do for my job, it's a good way to change things up and keep them interesting. I've always enjoyed taking the back roads through Vermont, as I've stumbled upon some truly stunning natural scenes during some of my drives. I was doing just that again during my last work trip there when I found myself wishing I had more time to stop and explore some of these communities that looked so beautiful from the road. They reminded me of some natural scenes in how they were untouched by modern society, which was a good thing. Suddenly, I got a call from the home office that told me that someone was ill and that my meeting the next day was canceled. I had an entire day to explore if I chose to do so. I did, and since I was nearby at the time I stopped in a place called Rutland. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay, as I travel with my HotelTonight app. I'd book a Rutland hotel room as soon as I was ready.
The Outdoors
If you live in Vermont, you're going to like the outdoors. That's just the way of life here, and I've never met anyone from Vermont who didn't spend a lot of time outside. That was fine with me, and since I had my hiking shoes with me I wasted no time putting them on and jumping on a trail near town. It was a gorgeous hike, as it took me up into the foothills and over the lowest tree line. I could see mountains in the distance, the valleys below and rock formations that were hard to comprehend. I took a lot of photos and enjoyed the experience.
The Museums
I was surprised that a community with only around 15,000 residents would have so many different museums. I decided to spend some time in one dedicated to Norman Rockwell, as that sounded very interesting to me. It was fun to walk through the place and see all sorts of different Norman Rockwell paintings and personal belongings of his. I must have spent three hours just taking photos of different things and talking to people. I didn't know that he had lived in Vermont for 15 years during his lifetime.
The Dining
I wanted something nice and hearty for dinner, and I heard about a pub that served that kind of food. It was a very nice place, complete with comfortable booths and bright colors. I felt like a steak, and the server recommended their flat iron steak. It was a good recommendation. It was tender, tasty and went very well with the fries that were cooked in duck fat. I had a very nice local pilsner to go with it and was a happy diner to say the least.
HotelTonight – Rutland Hotels are Available
I was quite full and tired, so it was time to get some sleep. I opened my HotelTonight app and booked a Rutland hotel room in seconds. Before long, I was lying in my comfortable bed, looking back on what had been a lovely day in a lovely place.
