Exploring downtown New Braunfels is a must while in town. This delightful downtown district is a mix of quirky homes, gorgeous historic buildings, great shops and restaurants, and popular entertainment venues. Walking down Main Street will give you a great feel for the heart and soul of New Braunfels, and you definitely don't want to miss relaxing in the serene Main Plaza off San Antonio Street. This square and its surroundings are so idyllic they belong in a picture book.

If you want to go for a dip, then you're in luck when you visit New Braunfels. There are many lakes and rivers around New Braunfels that locals love, such as Canyon Lake and the Comal River. If you want to go boating or fishing, you should join locals and head out to Canyon Lake to spend a day on the water. If you want to experience one of New Braunfels' most popular attractions, you should check out the Comal River, which flows through the heart of the city and offers great swimming, paddle boating and tubing.
Gruene Historical District
I love getting a feel for the history of a city whenever I visit, which is why I made sure to visit the Gruene Historical District while in New Braunfels. This neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it features lovely old buildings and homes that will give you a glimpse of what life was like in Texas in the 1800s. After visiting Gruene, I felt that I had a deeper understanding of the heritage and culture of New Braunfels.
