HotelTonight – Reedsport, Oregon Hotels
There is so much to do and see in Oregon that it's easy to lose track of most of it, especially if you don't live there. I've never lived in Oregon, but whenever I travel that's what I want to know: what it's like to live in that place. I have to say, that as much as I've traveled through Oregon, I think you could move from one place to another every year for your entire life and never have the same experience. I'm in Portland for work often, and that's a great city but a totally different way of life than you'd find in Eugene, Newport, Salem or anywhere else. That's why I always look forward to taking a work trip to the Beaver State. On my last run to the Pacific Northwest, I had a day of meetings randomly cancel, so suddenly I had 24 hours to myself. I decided to check out a place I hadn't seen before in Reedsport. I wasn't worried about finding a place to stay, as I travel with my HotelTonight app. I'd book a Reedsport, Oregon hotel room as soon as I was ready to crash.
The Town
The first place I wanted to see was downtown. I pulled in and got out of my car, making my way to a coffee shop. The downtown area was almost Rockwellian, as the main drag was lined with little, family-owned shops and businesses and people greeted each other warmly on the street. Reedsport is home to only about 5,000 people, so there's a real sense of community here. A lady I spoke to at the coffee shop said that this is a place where people tend to live for generations, and most of the children who grow up here never leave.
The Dunes
That doesn't mean that Reedsport doesn't host its fair share of visitors throughout the year, particularly in the summer when I was there. Reedsport sits next to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, which is a stretch of nearly 50 miles of sand and… yes, dunes. People from all over the map show up there in the summer with their RV's, their quads and other contraptions to have fun in the sun and the sand. I drove out there to see it, and it was striking to see how quickly I could go from civilization to completely baron desert.
The Dining
There were a lot of low-key options for dining in Reedsport, but for whatever reason I was in the mood for Mexican food. I heard about a place that had been there for quite some time, so I decided to give it a try. It was tremendous. I had the carne asada plate, and the meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly. It was also obvious that they cooked their own tortillas, as they were fresh and tasty. I ate more than I should have and enjoyed a drink or two.
