HotelTonight – Klamath Falls Hotels
When I think of Oregon, I tend to think of a lot of things, including green mountains, rain, mist, craft beer, wine, gorgeous coastlines and very nice people. One thing I do not tend to think of is sunshine. That never bothered me, as I live in a place with a lot of sun and I've always found places like Oregon, with its misty climate, to be somewhat… well… mystical. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested in exploring a place in Oregon that is known for sunshine, as that would definitely be something that would pique my interest, mostly because I'd be skeptical before I got there. There is a place in Oregon that is supposedly known for its sunshine, and it's called Klamath Falls. I didn't think I'd ever get much of a chance to see it, but on my last business trip to Portland I had an entire day free up suddenly after some people I was to meet with couldn't make it. I made the immediate decision to go see this place. It didn't matter that I didn't have a Klamath Falls hotel room, as I'd just book one with my HotelTonight app when I was ready to rest.
The Weather
Yes, they were right – Klamath Falls was sunny, particularly on the day that I was there. I stopped in at a coffee shop and started talking to some people who lived there, and they told me that on average, Klamath Falls gets quite a few more sunny days than is the average across the state. That's actually worth something to the people who live here, as this is clearly a city that enjoys outdoor activities. I talked to a few more people and decided to get out and enjoy the outdoors for myself.
The Hiking
There were a ton of different hiking trails both in and near the city of just over 20,000 people, and I love to hike as much as just about anything else. I stopped at my car, put on my shoes and hopped onto a trail that led out of town. Before I knew it, I felt like I was in some sort of wilderness, miles away from civilization. The green foothills and mountains of southern Oregon surrounded me, as did enormous pine trees. The views were indescribable, and my only fear at the time was that my camera wouldn't do them justice.
The Dining
A nice couple on the hiking trail told me about a local joint that served comfort food for dinner, and I wanted something nice and heavy. I also wanted a craft brew or two, so their recommendation sounded perfect. As it turns out, it was. I ordered a huge hamburger and a plate of French fries, and I imbibed in local pilsner beers that were delicious. The entire meal hit the spot, as I had been active all day and was starving when I walked in earlier.
