HotelTonight – Lincoln, NE Hotels are Available
For some reason, I've always enjoyed visiting capital cities of different states. I've also enjoyed my time in college towns, even though my college-age days are now long ago. Each of these types of places offers something unique and interesting, and it's always fun to see professionals hustling and bustling while working in state government and young people running around preparing for that type of a world. Even though I travel through the Midwest a lot, for some reason I never had an opportunity to see Lincoln, Nebraska. Fortunately, that all changed recently when I found out I'd be going to Lincoln for a few days for meetings. I was even more surprised – in a good way – to find out on the morning of my last full day there that my meetings for that day had been rescheduled until the following month. That meant that suddenly, I had a full day of exploring Lincoln in front of me if I decided to keep my original fight. I'd have to find my own lodging, but finding a Lincoln, NE hotel room would be fast and easy with my HotelTonight app. I couldn't wait to get out there and see this place.
The University
Of course, college towns are a lot of fun, so I had to start my day at the campus of the University of Nebraska. It's an enormous school, and it's about as scenic as any I had ever experienced. I walked around, taking in all of the different quads and lovely buildings. I talked to students from all over the world. I even spoke to a professor who had been there for more than 30 years, and he told me he'd never consider living or working anywhere else. I enjoyed my time there so much I bought a lot of clothing at the bookstore, and almost all of it was for myself.
The Outdoors
As is the case with a lot of different college campuses, there was a lot of outdoor space out there to explore. I love doing that sort of thing, so I walked through a couple of different parks near campus. Both of them had hiking trails that were very well maintained, and both of them were full of people of all ages and their dogs on what was a gorgeous day. I walked around for a couple of hours, taking photos of different trees and birds. I spoke to a bunch of different people, and those who live in Lincoln who are not students all consider this a very nice place to raise a family.
The Museums
I could not believe how many different museums were there to be found in Lincoln. I counted at least 5 or 6, and unfortunately I didn't have time for all of them. I did spend a lot of time in the museum dedicated to the history of Nebraska, and its exhibits included pieces that dated back to prehistoric times. I also got to see a slice of life from the frontier days and even obtained a better understanding of what life was like on the farms of Nebraska as recently as 40 or 50 years ago. Once again, I lost myself in the museums for a couple of hours, but that was fine with me. I also got to talk to a lot of nice people.
The Dining
You're always going to get a little bit of everything in terms of dining options near college campuses, and that was the case with Lincoln. For whatever reason, I wanted to have a classic cheeseburger and a shake. I guess it's because I heard so much about a place near campus that specialized in those offerings from several people throughout the day. I walked in and thought I was stepping into a time warp, as the decor was all from decades ago. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and a vanilla milkshake, and before long I was diving into an enormous platter. The fries were seasoned impeccably, and there were a lot of them. The burger was so big it was hard to wrap my mouth around it. Once I did, though, I was blown away by how juicy and tasty the meat and toppings were. I had to give the milkshake a few minutes to warm up, as it was too thick to even drink at first. It was a fantastic meal.

I was incredibly full and quite tired from all the walking around I did that day. As I gazed out the window at the capital, promising to come back some day and see it, I realized that I needed a place to sleep.
