HotelTonight – Book Hotels in Columbia at the Drop of a Hat
I had made plans to meet a friend in Columbia and spend the hanging out, but when he had to cancel at the last minute, I decided to make the best of the situation and spend the day exploring the city. I knew I'd be able to find a hotel room with no problem, even on short notice, thanks to the HotelTonight app, which left me free to enjoy a fun day seeing the sights. I'd never really got the chance to spend a day in Columbia before and was excited to see all the city had to offer. Even though my plans changed, I was still going to have a great day in the city.
The Area
Located in north-central Missouri, Columbia is the county seat of Boone County. It's one of the most exciting cities in the area and has so much for visitors to see and do. Columbia is near the Missouri River Valley and is surrounded by green hills. Columbia is home to the University of Missouri, and the campus always has something exciting going on, especially during football season when thousands of fans turn out to watch the Mizzou Tigers play. The area has a rich history and is part of the region known as Little Dixie and is known as the Athens of Missouri. It was easy to see how the town got that nickname, as I pulled into town. It was so beautiful and seemed like one of the most exciting places in the state. This was my first time in Columbia, and I could tell as soon as I pulled into town that I was going to love it. The city has a small town feeling, while retaining all the comforts of being in a city.
Things to Do
I started off my day in Columbia with a trip to the Museum of Art and Archaeology. The museum was great and a must for anyone who loves art and history. The museum features a large collection of some beautiful works of art and some amazing archaeological artifacts. After the museum, I decided to visit Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. The part was beautiful, and it was really cool to see the rock formations. As I drove back into town from the state park, I saw a sign for the Shelter Gardens and decided to check that out before grabbing something for dinner. The gardens were really nice and beautiful and are part of a free park. Walking around the garden, and seeing some of the beautiful flowers, sculptures and buildings, was a nice way to relax and spend the afternoon. I wish I would have had more time in town, because there were so many other things I would have loved to do with more time.
The Food
After I left the state park, I was hungry and wanted to get something to eat. Whenever I visit a new town, I like to ask around and find out where the locals love to eat. Several people recommended a great little pizza place in town. I ordered a personal supreme pizza and, as soon as I took the first bite, I was so glad I come to that restaurant. Everything tasted so fresh and the vegetables tasted like they could have been picked that day. I also ordered a side of breadsticks, which were great as well. I really liked the restaurant's marinara sauce. In addition to the great food, everyone at the restaurant was so friendly, which made the meal even more enjoyable. I think that this was one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. I'll make sure to eat here again, during my next trip to Columbia.

Once I'd finished dinner, I was feeling ready to get some rest and decided it was time to find a hotel for the night. In the past, I've had trouble finding a place at the last minute.
