HotelTonight – Colby, KS Hotels Are Available
I know Interstate 70 like the back of my hand, especially when it comes to driving from Kansas into Colorado. I do that drive all the time, and I enjoy it because it's relatively straight, it's relatively flat – at least in Kansas – and it's relatively peaceful. I'd rather do that drive than fight my way through traffic in a large city any day, as this type of travel gives me the opportunity to think and gather myself before my next meeting. When I see that drive on my calendar, I know it's going to be a good day. However, on recent drives I've found myself regretting the fact that I've never really taken any time to explore any of the communities that sit along I-70. The reason is because as relaxed as I am at the time, I always have to get to my next appointment, so there's no time. That all changed on my last trip there, as I found out that an entire day of meetings were canceled. That meant that I had an entire day to myself, so I was going to explore Colby, KS. I'd let HotelTonight find me a Colby, KS hotel room later – for now I just wanted to explore.
The Museum
Colby is a small city, as just over 5,000 people call it home. It's still quite lovely on every level, and it comes with a surprise or two. The first one I encountered was their museum of art and history, as I didn't expect to find something like this there. I was way off base, though, as the folks in Colby are proud of this museum, as they should be. I walked through it and was fascinated by the look at local history that I was afforded.
Antiques
I decided to continue on my history theme by moving on to the antique mall that's also in town. This was not some flea market where people offload their junk, as that's what I've encountered in other places. This was a place filled with interesting items from years past. Everything I saw was in great shape, and I wound up buying a few things I didn't need but that I wanted anyway. It was also a nice opportunity to talk to some of the locals who were also at the mall. They were all extremely friendly and helpful with information.
The Dining
As I talked to people during the afternoon, I kept hearing about a Mexican restaurant when the topic of my dinner came up. I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. The place was nothing fancy, but that never bothers me. The food was every bit as good as anything I've had in or near Mexico, which was quite exciting. I had a carne asada burrito and all of the traditional sides, and everything was cooked and flavored perfectly. I ate more than I should have, but that's because it was so good.
