The nearest national park to Kemmerer is Fossil Butte, a 50-million year old lake bed that is one of the world's richest fossil locations. If you're interested in fossils and archaeology, you could visit one of the many fossil quarries or educational sites to learn more about the many fossils found in this area of Wyoming.
The Mountains
Kemmerer is located in the midst of high desert and the majestic Rocky Mountains, so there are many fantastic options for exploring the great outdoors while in Kemmerer. Even though I only stayed in Kemmerer for one day, I was able to squeeze in a couple of hikes and even a scenic bike ride before I had to continue on with my road trip, and exploring more of Kemmerer's surrounding nature gave me a deeper appreciation for the town.
