I wanted to visit a town that wasn't overflowing with tourists, because I wanted to really get a sense of local life in an underrated destination. Hulett makes up for its small size in larger-than-life attractions and a very tight-knit community, all of which made me develop a soft spot for this small Wyoming town. Devils Tower
Just nine miles away from Hulett, you'll find Devils Tower, the very first national monument in the U.S. This massive geological feature may cause your jaw to drop, because it's such an enormous and unusual sight. Devils Tower and the surrounding areas offer hiking, climbing and even golfing, so there is plenty of outdoor recreation available around Hulett.
The Old West
There's a reason why Hulett has earned the nickname, "Best Little Town in the West" – this small town seems to have been untouched by time over the years. When you walk through the town of Hulett, you actually feel like you're walking through an old western town, with its wooden buildings, antique shops and old saloons. Just by wandering the town, I gained a greater understanding of the old west, and I also met a handful of friendly locals, who were more than happy to tell me about their town's heritage.
Community Events
Even though Hulett is a tiny town, it holds huge community events. Hulett regularly hosts events like cook-outs, parades and, of course, rodeos. I was lucky enough to be in town for a rodeo, so I joined the locals and experienced my first-ever rodeo. This was definitely the highlight of my time in Hulett, because it was an opportunity to be a part of the community and really understand what daily life is like for locals in Hulett, Wyoming.
