HotelTonight – Downtown Milwaukee Hotels at the Ready

Milwaukee is a city that is both a sign of things to come and an ode to the traditional past in this part of the country. When you walk down the streets here you see ultra-modern buildings going up next to buildings that have most likely been in place for over 100 years, and nothing looks forced or superficial. I had been here several times for work, but I have never been able to just take a day for myself to go explore and see what it's like to actually spend time here without thinking about that meeting that starts in 10 minutes. Before my last trip, I decided to book my return flight for 24 hours after I knew I'd be done with my work obligations. I wanted to spend time downtown. I wasn't worried about accommodations. I have the app HotelTonight on my phone, so when it came time to find a downtown Milwaukee hotel room I'd just open the app and choose one.

The Arts

One thing that I never noticed downtown was the fact that the art scene was so prevalent here. As I walked down some of the main drags, particularly by the river, I noticed more than one art gallery and more than one artist workshop. I even toured an art museum for part of the day and all but lost myself in it while I was there. Milwaukee is a city that prompts you to think about several things, but art was never one of them for me, at least not until this trip.

The Riverwalk

The aptly-named Milwaukee River runs right through downtown, and those who had a hand in developing the land near the banks of the river did a masterful job. The Milwaukee Riverwalk is a concrete thoroughfare that was built for pedestrians only, and you can walk all along the shore and stop in at different places along the way for a snack and/or a drink. You can even rent a kayak if you so choose and really get to know the river in an up-close and personal way. I did not do that, but I promised myself that I would if I ever came back to this part of town.

The Nightlife

Milwaukee is a fun and vibrant city, and that's always been part of the culture here. I had some time after dinner and decided to see what people did around here after the sun went down. There were different establishments that offered just about whatever you could ever want to do for an evening. There were dance clubs, dance halls, sports bars and watering holes all around downtown. What I noticed was that everything looked quite clean, calm, upbeat and safe.

HotelTonight – Downtown Milwaukee Hotels in Seconds

After having a cocktail at a watering hole--which is my type of place--I decided to grab a downtown Milwaukee hotel room and call it a night. I opened HotelTonight on my phone and swiped the screen a few times. Within seconds, I had a room booked that was only a few blocks away. I was ready for a long night of sleep after a fun day.
