As the capital and largest city in Idaho, Boise is made up of several different communities that all combine to form one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the state. Growing up in a small town in Eastern Idaho, I have been to Boise many times; however, despite the many trips I've made to the city throughout my life, it wasn't until recently that I spent a day in downtown Boise. While driving back from a work trip, I decided to break up my long drive and spend a day exploring the city. I found myself in the heart of Boise and was looking forward to the day. Throughout the day, I was able to check out some great stores and restaurants, and get a feel for what makes Boise one of the most exciting cities in the area. Thanks to the HotelTonight app, I didn't have to worry about finding a place to stay on short notice and got to enjoy an unexpected day out.
The Difference
Boise is easily one of the most engaging cities in Idaho and eastern Oregon and by staying in the downtown area, you can make sure you're in the heart of all the excitement. One of the things I loved about spending a day in the downtown area of Boise is how walkable it is. There are restaurants, shops and parks all within a short walk of each other, making it feel like an open and friendly city. Another great thing about the city is the number of trees and parks around town. It is easy to find a shady spot to relax, or you can just enjoy the beauty of nature, even in a downtown area.
The Development
Recently the downtown Boise area has seen a business boom with a number of local shops, restaurants and attractions opening. There seems to be a growing number of boutique-style shops popping up around the area that give Boise the feeling of an artsy and trendy city. In addition to shops in the area, downtown Boise is also home to a number of businesses. If you are in town for business, it's easy to find places within walking distance to explore during lunch, or in between meetings.
The Food
The downtown area is home to a number of great restaurants. One of the things I love the most about being in the area is the number of great places to eat. Whether you want a quick and easy hamburger, or want to sit down and enjoy food in a diner, or a pizza joint, downtown Boise has it all. During my day there, I visited a great local joint right in the heart of downtown and had a hamburger and fries that was unforgettable. The number of great places to eat downtown alone nearly warrant another trip to Boise.
