HotelTonight – Find Great Hotels in Wilmington, DE

Delaware seems to be overlooked by many travelers, possibly because of the state's small size. This is unfortunate, though, because Delaware has plenty to offer visitors, from its rich history and beautiful old buildings to its stunning natural scenery and welcoming communities. So naturally, when I had the chance to visit Delaware recently, I took it. I decided to visit Wilmington, the most populous city in the state. Don't let that fact fool you, though – the population of Wilmington is just over 70,000, so it doesn't feel like a bustling metropolis. Rather, it feels like the perfect mix of a small town and a vibrant city, so it has a bit of something for everyone. I loved exploring Wilmington, and its various neighborhoods. I tried my best to see the city through a local's eyes. To do this, I asked locals for suggestions about their favorite neighborhoods and found the perfect Wilmington hotel in the heart of the city. I booked my Wilmington, Delaware hotel in just a few easy taps on my phone through my HotelTonight app, which makes finding and booking hotels the easiest part of traveling.

Downtown

I decided to stay at a hotel in downtown Wilmington, because I wanted to stay in the heart of the city. No matter where you go in downtown Wilmington, you'll find beautiful old buildings that will remind you of the city's history. I loved walking the streets of downtown Wilmington and passing historic buildings that reflect three centuries of American architecture. Even if you don't care about the gorgeous old architecture in downtown Wilmington, you're sure to still love this city center, as it's where you'll find some of the best restaurants, shops and bars in town.

LoMa

The trendy young neighborhood of LoMa (Lower Market Street) was one of my favorite areas in Wilmington. As a hub for the city's entrepreneurs and creative types, LoMa has a unique, vibrant energy that made me fall in love with the neighborhood immediately. This creative business district is the place to be if you want to hear live music, see local art and check out some of the trendiest cafes and coffee shops in the city. After exploring the neighborhood, I came to the conclusion that LoMa is where I'd want to live if I was a Wilmington local.

Brandywine Village

The historic village of Brandywine will give you a great idea of what life was like in late-18thcentury Delaware. It beautiful old buildings and quieter atmosphere certainly separate it from the livelier downtown neighborhoods, but that's one of the reasons I loved it so much. I enjoyed strolling through the quiet streets of Brandywine, passing beautiful old homes and soaking in the history and charm of this historic neighborhood.

Little Italy

My friends and family know that if there's a Little Italy in a city I'm visiting, I'll be making a visit to the neighborhood at least once when I'm feeling hungry. So when I discovered that Wilmington has a Little Italy neighborhood, I was thrilled. I made my way to Little Italy my first night in Wilmington so that I could feast on some authentic, freshly made Italian food. While I primarily going to Little Italy for the delicious food, I couldn't help but notice the unique charm and character of the neighborhood. Wilmington's Little Italy is colorful and vibrant, and I stumbled upon incredible murals and brightly colored houses and storefronts. So even if you're not in the mood for Italian food, Little Italy is worth a quick trip just for its pretty buildings and welcoming community.

Riverfront

The city of Wilmington sits along the Christina River, and one of the most popular areas among Wilmington locals is the Riverfront. This neighborhood not only features beautiful views of the river, but it also boasts countless activities and entertainment options. Along the Riverfront, you'll find popular spots like the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, the Riverfront Market, Frawley Stadium and, of course, great walking and biking paths. There's always so much life and energy along the Riverfront, so if you're ever feeling bored in Wilmington, just make your way toward the Christina River to explore one of the locals' favorite areas of their city.
