This California State Park features diverse natural terrain, from rugged cliffs and coastal plains to canyons and a 1,347-foot peak. In Montana de Oro, you can go for a scenic hike in the morning, and explore tide pools in the afternoon. After spending a few hours in Montana de Oro, you'll come to understand why the park earned the name, "The Mountain of Gold."
The Village
Morro Bay has been a fishing village from its birth, and to this day, it still feels like an old-school fishing village, which makes it one of the most charming, unique towns on the coast of California. The village of Morro Bay is small, but it still has a lot to offer, from gift shops to cute boutiques to upscale dining spots, and you should definitely be prepared to try some fresh seafood while in Morro Bay.
The Bay
The highlight of Morro Bay is, without a doubt, Morro Rock – the massive, distinctive rock structure jutting out of the natural bay. Morro Rock is very well known, and you can get up close to it by kayaking out into the bay or even surfing on the north side. Morro Rock is the most distinguishing geological site of the Central Coast, so you'll definitely want to snap a picture or two of this colossal rock.
