HotelTonight – Find Great Hotels in Sundance, Wyoming

Sundance, Wyoming is not famous for hosting the iconic famous film festival (that takes place at a resort in Utah). Rather, it's famous for being the home of "the Sundance Kid," as in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." Naturally, as the home of this legendary outlaw, Sundance has a long, rich history as a Western town, and its residents are still very proud of this unique heritage. I'll admit that the main reason I was drawn to Sundance in the first place was for its cowboy culture, but after spending a few days there, I came to love Sundance for so much more – like its breathtaking nature, its boundless opportunities for adventure, and its warm and welcoming community. As soon as I decided to take a spur-of-the-moment trip to Sundance, I checked the HotelTonight app on my phone. This app has been a lifesaver for me on many occasions during my travels, and once again, it proved why it's my favorite travel resource – I was able to find a great Sundance hotel in mere minutes through the HotelTonight app.

Devils Tower

Sundance is known as the "Gateway to Devils Tower," so you shouldn't travel all the way to Sundance without visiting Devils Tower. This national monument is a phenomenal geologic feature that provides the perfect backdrop for photos, but locals don't just come here to take pictures – they come to Devils Tower for climbing, hiking and even golfing.

Keyhole Reservoir

Wyoming is known for its natural beauty and its boundless outdoor activities, which is why I spent most of my time in Sundance enjoying the great outdoors. One of my favorite spots in the area was Keyhole State Park, which is home to the beautiful Keyhole Reservoir. During the summer months, Keyhole is where locals go for fishing, swimming and boating. Since I was lucky enough to be in Sundance during the summer months, I joined the locals and enjoyed an action-packed day on the water.

Black Hills

Most of Black Hills National Forest lies in South Dakota, but there are still many areas of the forest in Wyoming, and you can easily access them from Sundance. There's something in Black Hills for every type of outdoor enthusiast – hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing and hunting during the summer, as well as skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. I've visited my fair share of national parks and preserved forests over the years, but Black Hills was by far one of the most impressive.

HotelTonight – Sundance Hotels in Minutes

There are some trips you will never forget, and my trip to Sundance, Wyoming was certainly one of mine. Not only are the locals of Sundance friendly and informative, but there is also so much to do in the area that you will never be bored. I've fallen in love with the beauty of Wyoming, and I hope to explore more of the state on upcoming trips.
