HotelTonight – Chequamegon Hotels Are Available

When you head up to the northern part of Wisconsin, you run into the largest freshwater lake in the world. Lake Superior is a natural wonder, and it's been feeding people and providing passage eastward for centuries. I've always looked forward to heading up in that direction whenever possible, but until recently it had been a long time. On my last business trip to an area not too far from there, however, I somehow wound up with an extra day to spend for myself. I wasn't going to waste this opportunity. Instead, I was going to take that day to explore Chequamegon, a part of this neck of the woods – almost literally – that I had never seen before and that I couldn't wait to explore. The only concern I had was that I didn't have lodging for the evening. Thankfully, that concern was immediately alleviated when I downloaded the HotelTonight app. I provided some basic information, searched for a Chequamegon hotel room for that night, and before I knew it, I had a room booked. I was on my way to see a place I could not wait to see.

The Bay

Chequamegon Bay is located on the south shore of Lake Superior near the town of Ashland. It juts in a southwesterly direction off of the lake, and the first thing I noticed about the area was the almost overwhelming number of enormous pine trees that surrounded the water and just about everything else. This was clearly untouched territory, as there were more birds flying around than I could count, including enormous eagles. I also saw quite a few fishing boats on the road, and I was sure that there was a lot of fresh seafood to be had. The bay seemed to be the hub of the area.

The Forest

I am an avid hiker, and I wanted to spend some time hiking around Chequamegon so I could take in all that its natural beauty had to offer me that day. I found the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, which is home to more than a million acres of natural woodland. I spent hours walking around, taking photos of birds, deer and all sorts of other forest creatures and just listening to the wind gently make its way through the enormous tree branches. It was as if I was cut off from the world, but in a beautiful, serene way.

The Cuisine

If there's one thing I know about Wisconsin – and northern Wisconsin in particular – it's that you're going to find some of the best food in family-owned taverns. I found such a tavern near the water after my hike, and, ready for dinner, I walked into a classic old-time tavern scene. The bar looked like it was over 100 years old, the cocktails were served in copper mugs, and I ordered a cheeseburger and fries that was ready to eat inside of 15 minutes. It was also delicious. The cheese was falling off the sides of the burger and the fries were perfectly crunchy.

HotelTonight – Chequamegon Hotels Just for You

I had another cocktail after my delicious dinner and realized just then that I needed a place to stay. I opened my HotelTonight app and booked a Chequamegon hotel room in a matter of seconds. I couldn't wait to get to sleep, as I had enjoyed a full day and was ready for some rest.
