The historic downtown district of Ellensburg has been revitalized in recent years, and now it blends its historical past with its modern energy. Downtown Ellensburg is home to a number of beautiful historic buildings, which you can find on Main Street and Third Avenue. Also in downtown, you'll find a number of great shops, restaurants and art galleries. I was initially surprised to pass so many different art galleries, but I came to learn that Ellensburg actually has quite a vibrant arts scene.
Wineries
Ellensburg is located in a rich agricultural region, so its countryside is filled with beautiful vineyards. Since I love wine, I decided that I couldn't travel to Ellensburg without visiting some of its wineries, so I spent an afternoon hopping from one beautiful winery to another. I never knew much about Washington wines, but after my trip to Ellensburg, I developed a deep understanding and appreciation for the wines of the region.
Central Washington University
Central Washington University is the fastest-growing public university in the state, and it has a student population of about 12,000. This university was founded in 1881, so it features beautiful historic buildings and a strong legacy. I quickly realized that the main reason why Ellensburg has such a vibrant energy is because of its student population, and I loved the youthful excitement I found all over campus. If you want to get a feel for Ellensburg's rich history and its exciting present, you should definitely take a stroll through the CWU campus.
