HotelTonight – Clemson Hotels Are Available
College towns are unique, at least in my opinion. They tend to be a combination of smaller communities with larger schools, and the best ones find a balance that gives them a special identity. I've been to college towns all over the United States, and every time I have an opportunity to visit another one I jump at the chance. Luck smiled on me again not too long ago when a work trip was taking me through South Carolina. I managed to schedule an extra day at the end of my trip, giving myself 24 hours to get to know a new place. I chose to visit the city of Clemson. I had never been there, but I had heard of the school that's located there many times. One of the beautiful things about this plan is that thanks to my HotelTonight app, I wouldn't even need to spend hours searching for a Clemson hotel room online before I left. All I'd need to do is drive to town, get out, look around, have some fun and then book my room at the end of the day when I was ready to get some sleep.
The University
My first stop when I got to Clemson was, of course, the university. Clemson University is a large school, with over 23,000 students. That makes it nearly 50 percent larger than the city itself. The campus was beautiful, bucolic and friendly. I walked around and talked to students and staff members from all over the world, and all of them were happy to have found this place in the middle of South Carolina. I walked through a few buildings and departments, past the football stadium and into the bookstore, where I purchased some items for myself and for others.
The Botanical Gardens
After seeing campus, I wanted to see a bit of the outdoors, so I went to a botanical garden I had heard about earlier that day. If you ever want to get a true picture of what nature looks like in South Carolina, this is the place to go. There were rustic trails all over the place, and I was under palmetto trees and among Spanish moss while looking at gorgeous and exotic flowers. I took more photos than I can remember, and the best part of all was that it didn't cost anything to enter or to park.
The Dining
Someone at the botanical garden told me about a quaint little restaurant that made a mean steak and had really good macaroni and cheese. Those are two of my favorites, so that's where I went for dinner. That person was right. The steak was cooked a perfect medium, and the macaroni and cheese was made with four different kinds of cheese. It was so rich it was hard to eat much of it, but it was so delicious that I managed to push on. It was a great meal.
