HotelTonight – Fairmount Philadelphia Hotels in Minutes
About a mile and a half outside of Philadelphia's Center City, you'll find Fairmount, one of the most charming, down-to-earth neighborhoods in the entire city. While Fairmount is much more residential than Center City, it still has a lively urban feel, and you can stroll along its colorful streets to find cheap eateries, cute coffee shops, and trendy boutiques. Fairmount's peaceful atmosphere (and its affordability) makes it a desirable place for Philadelphia's young professionals, students and young families to live. Since I wanted to explore this residential neighborhood during my recent trip to Philadelphia, I decided to stay in the heart of Fairmount. To find the best deals on hotels in Fairmount Philadelphia, I checked out HotelTonight's website. Within minutes, I had booked a lovely hotel in the center of Fairmount, and I was ready to see what life was like for locals in this charming Philadelphia neighborhood.
Fairmount Park
One of the reasons why so many Philadelphia locals love Fairmount is for its abundance of green outdoor spaces. After all, this neighborhood is home to Fairmount Park, one of the most expansive urban green spaces in the entire country. Fairmount Park features over 9,000 acres of trails, making it one of the best places in the city to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. During my brief stay in Fairmount, I took advantage of this large park (which consists of both woodlands and wetlands) and went running and walking on its many trails every morning, just like I would if I were a real Fairmount local.
Fine Art
Among Philadelphians, Fairmount is known as the "Art Museum Area," which makes complete sense when you discover just how many world-class museums are in Fairmount. While in Fairmount, you can easily walk to major museums like the Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rodin and Barnes Foundation. Whether you want to see famous French sculptures or beautiful oil paintings, you'll find some of the world's most famous masterpieces here in Fairmount, Philadelphia's main destination for fine art.
The River Trail
As I already mentioned, Fairmount is a great place to live or visit for those who like the outdoors. A few locals recommended I check out the Schuylkill River Trail during my stay in Fairmount, and I immediately fell in love with this riverside trail, which stretches over 26 miles along the Schuylkill River. No matter the time of day, you can always find locals walking, running, or biking along this scenic urban trail, and you'll realize just why Fairmount is such a desirable place to live.
