HotelTonight – Gold Beach, Oregon Hotels Near You

There's something about a seaside town that I've always loved. No matter where in the world I had been, these types of communities always have a certain smell of fresh sea air, they always have a feel of a tightly-knit community and they were always welcoming. One place where I had never experienced a seaside town was along the coast of Oregon. I had to travel to Portland recently for work, and my meetings ended on a Friday. Instead of flying out immediately, I made the last-minute decision to rent a car, fly home the following evening and go explore a seaside town in the Beaver State. I didn't really know where to go, but a work colleague suggested Gold Beach. I took her up on her recommendation and set a course for the Pacific Ocean. I was going to spend 24 hours experiencing a seaside town in a different part of the world than where I had ever seen one. I wasn't concerned about finding a place to stay, either, as I was traveling with HotelTonight. I'd find and book a Gold Beach, Oregon hotel room as soon as I was ready to call it a day.

The Town

The first place I wanted to explore when I got to Gold Beach was the town itself. True to the form of seaside communities I had seen, this was not a big place by any stretch. I found out that just over 2,000 people live there, and it definitely had that small-town feel when I walked around downtown. The shops were all local, the streets were not busy and the people all seemed to know each other on an innate level. Every person I spoke to was also incredibly friendly and helpful with ideas of what to see, which I appreciated quite a bit.

The Hiking

Gold Beach sits on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, but also near a river and the Siskiyou Mountains. Therefore, I could expand on my love of hiking by doing so near the sea, near the river or in the mountains. I chose the sea, and grabbed a map from the local visitor's center. It was a relatively easy hike, which was great because I was glad to have a lot of energy to take photos of the stunning views of the coast and the old-growth forest that covered the trail.

The Dining

When I'm in a seaside town, I obviously want to enjoy some seafood for dinner. A lady on the hiking trail told me about a place that served great fish and chips, and that definitely sounded right for me. This was not a fancy place, and reminded me of some wooden rec rooms I had seen. Regardless, the fish and chips were sublime. Perfectly cooked cod from nearby and chips that added a nice crunch to the overall experience. I had a local brew to go with it and some nice conversation with some of the other patrons. It was a nice time.
