I recently planned a last-minute trip to Edmond to visit the University of Central Oklahoma, and I loved the town so much that I decided to extend my stay. After checking into my hotel, I set out to explore downtown Edmond on foot, because I always feel that one of the best ways to really get to know a city is to walk its streets. It certainly wasn't hard to see the charm and the beauty of downtown Edmond, which is a small, quaint downtown home to over 30 specialty shops, restaurants and bars. This is where locals go to shop, to dine and to mingle, so naturally I decided to spend a lot of time in downtown Edmond as well. I loved the laidback, warm atmosphere of this idyllic little downtown district, and I was so glad I stayed in a hotel nearby.
Arcadia Lake
Edmond locals are lucky that they have so much nature in their backyard. There's always some sort of outdoors recreation they can enjoy, whether it's hiking, fishing or mountain biking. One of the most popular spots for outdoors recreation in Edmond is Arcadia Lake, which offers an abundance of aquatic recreation, such as fishing and boating, as well as picnicking, swimming, camping and bird watching.
Museums
Edmond is a relatively small city, but it still offers a lot in terms of art, history, and culture. There are several museums in Edmond that are worth visiting, and locals actually take great pride in their city's cultural offerings. Notable museums in Edmond include the Edmond Historical Society & Museum, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Oklahoma Firefighters Museum and the Science Museum of Oklahoma. Even though I didn't have time to visit all of the great museums in Edmond, I was able to get a feel for the city's great options for arts and culture during my short stay.
