HotelTonight – Book Hotels in Ironton at the Drop of a Hat
I had been in St. Louis, Missouri for a series of stressful meetings. When the last meeting ended, I was feeling stressed and dreaded the long drive home. I decided to extend my trip by one day and spend some time exploring a town just a short drive from St. Louis. I wouldn't have any problem finding a place to stay thanks to the HotelTonight app, which left me free to enjoy a great day in Ironton.
The Area
The town of Ironton is located about an hour and a half from St. Louis in the southeastern part of the state. It is found in Iron County and has a population of just over 1,400 residents. The town was named after the large amount of iron ore that is found in the area and serves as the county seat of Iron County. There is a lot of natural beauty surrounding Ironton, and it is near the Black River. Despite its small population, Ironton is a great place to visit and the small town has so much to see and do.
Things to Do
While Ironton is a small town it's just a short drive from a lot of really fun and exciting activities. I started my day off with a trip to the Fort Davidson State Historic Site, which commemorates the battle of Pilot Knob in the Civil War. It was really cool and informative, there is a small museum that has items from the area and the battle. After visiting the museum, I headed off to Elephant Rock State Park. The park was beautiful, and it was really nice to enjoy the beautiful weather in Missouri.
The Food
When I left the state park, I was feeling hungry and wanted to get something delicious to eat for lunch. I always like to find where the locals love to eat, so I asked around and was led to a great little restaurant that served burgers, sandwiches and wings. I ordered a plate of wings and, as soon as I took a bite, I was so glad I decided to eat there. The food was delicious, and the sauce with the wings was so good. I'll be sure to eat there again, if I find myself in Ironton again.

After I finished my meal, I was feeling tired and was ready to get some rest. In the past, it's been a bit of a hassle to find a place to stay on short notice, but I didn't have to worry this time. A relaxing day in the small town was just what I needed. The next day I headed home feeling refreshed and revitalized. I'll make sure to visit Ironton the next time I'm in that part of the state.
