One of downtown Kansas City's most beloved neighborhoods, River Market is a place where locals and visitors alike can come and spend a fun-filled day, and it's an especially popular destination on the weekend. This bustling neighborhood is always filled with different sights, sounds and smells, so it truly is a treat for the senses, so I was never bored during my stay in River Market. Plus, staying near River Market means you'll be able to easily walk to many of Kansas City's most popular areas, so you'll get to see many different sides of the city. As soon as I arrived, though, I instantly fell in love with the energy and the liveliness of River Market, and I already know that I would stay in the area again the next time I visit Kansas City.
The City Market
Without a doubt, the primary attraction in River Market is the City Market. This bustling market features more than 140 stalls of produce, baked goods, flowers and other local products, making it the region's largest farmers market. Every weekend, locals make the journey to River Market to purchase fresh food at the City Market, so the atmosphere in the market is full of excitement and energy. I totally understand why they make the trek, because if I were a Kansas City local, I would visit the City Market every weekend, too.
Shopping
Aside from shopping for food at the City Market, there are plenty of other great shopping options in River Market. If you walk past the red brick buildings in River Market, you'll notice one cool shop after another, from vintage boutiques to old-fashioned candy stores. This is a great place to pick up souvenirs from Kansas City, because you won't be able to find goods as cool as these anywhere else.
The River
As the name implies, River Market sits along the Missouri River, which means you'll be able to go for a nice riverfront stroll after spending the morning shopping. In this area, you'll find riverfront trails and lookout points to admire the beauty of the Missouri River, which provides a nice slice of nature in the middle of this busy urban neighborhood. During my weekend trip to Kansas City, I spent many hours walking along the river, and it was one of my favorite parts of the entire city.
