Where to stay in Maryland

HotelTonight – Maryland Hotels in a Flash

When I take a vacation, I unplug as much as possible. I have my phone with me, as you never know when you're going to need to communicate for some reason, but my laptop, my tablet and every other piece of electronics stays at home. I also stay away from any calendar app, as I spend too much of my life as it is being governed by schedules, agendas and the like. I like to pick a state that I haven't seen before and travel through it, as to me that's a great way to lose yourself somewhere. One state that I had never seen until recently was Maryland. I decided that this was going to be my next destination, but I did want to see if there was an app or something out there that could help me find a last-minute Maryland hotel room if such a need arose.

I searched the app store for something that would help me find last-minute lodging, and I found something called HotelTonight. I hadn't heard of it before but I downloaded it and that was a fast process. I opened it and searched for Maryland hotels. I was impressed with how many choices were available, and I was even more impressed that the hotels provided were all of high quality. The final surprise arrived when I realized that the rates offered were extremely reasonable. I chose a place for the first night I'd be there, as I knew where I would be and I wanted to see how it worked. I was amazed, but within a few swipes and taps, I had a room booked and confirmed. All I needed to do now that I had this resource at my disposal was some research on interesting things to see and do in the Old Line State.

Maryland and Blue Crabs

Yes, Maryland is known for its blue crabs and yes, it seemed a bit clichéd to make sure I tried them, but the fact is that I love crab and I have never tried these delicacies. I spent my first day near Chesapeake Bay, which was absolutely gorgeous, and I saw vendors out selling what I thought were hot dogs. Some of them were selling hot dogs, but others were selling crab cakes made of blue crab. I had to try them. I bought two of them and ate them so quickly that I had to remind myself that I had actually had two. I went and bought two more and ate them almost as quickly. They were that good.

Maryland Is the Home of Chevy Chase

No, not that Chevy Chase. A lot of people think that the city renamed itself from something else after the actor and comedian became famous. However, that's not the case. Chevy Chase has had its name since the 19th Century, well before the celebrity became a celebrity. There are competing arguments as to how the city actually got its name, but the celebrity Chevy Chase, born Cornelius Crane Chase, was nicknamed Chevy by his grandmother after this gorgeous town.

Maryland and Authors

The city of Baltimore is known for a lot of different things, but one of the things that I noticed while I was there was that this is a city that is home to a lot of world-renowned and in some cases historic authors. Edgar Allen Poe was from Baltimore, and the city's professional football team is nicknamed after one of his works. Tom Clancy was also born here, and he has become known in more modern times for his different thriller-type novels. This is a very literary city.

Annapolis Speaks for Itself

If you're in Maryland, you have to spend some time in Annapolis. You'd be hard-pressed to find a city more steeped in history. Annapolis is not only the capital of Maryland, but it was the capital of the United States in 1783 and 1784. It was also where the Treaty of Paris was signed, which was the document that officially ended the Revolutionary War. These days, millions of people visit Annapolis for several different reasons, including to visit the United States Naval Academy, which is a marvel to behold.

HotelTonight – Maryland Hotels Are Available

As I made my way back into Baltimore for my flight home, I realized that I had just experienced a very special place. I had eaten unique and delicious cuisine, I had seen beautiful cities and I had experienced a lot of different types of history. I had also gone through this trip with my new favorite travel companion, the app known as HotelTonight. It helped me find Maryland hotels more than once when I needed a place to stay. I looked forward to traveling again in the future, and I would do so with HotelTonight at my side.
