HotelTonight – Maine Hotels in a Few Swipes

When I travel, I like to do so as lightly as possible. I don't bring a lot of luggage and I don't do a lot of planning. To me, that's the whole point of traveling --to get out there and see what there is to see without worrying about timing, schedules, itineraries and the like. I realize others view traveling differently, but that's how I've always done it and that's how I will probably always do it to an extent. Recently, I decided to spend some vacation time exploring Maine. I had never seen it before but had heard from countless people that it was beautiful and that I should experience it in my lifetime. I wasn't worried about getting around, and I wasn't worried about finding a hotel room in Maine, but I did want to make sure that I had some sort of resource available in case I needed a Maine hotel room at the last minute.

I decided to see if there were any apps out there that could help me find a hotel room if I was stuck somewhere and needed lodging immediately. I found one called HotelTonight, and although I hadn't used it I do remember at least one person talking about it positively. I opened it and searched for Maine hotels, and I was quite impressed with the number of options available. I also liked the quality of the options presented. I decided to book a Maine hotel room on the first night, as I knew where I would be that day. I had the room booked in seconds. All I needed to do now was some research on interesting things about Maine, as that has always been a good way for me to get some ideas of where I should go and what I should do.

Maine Has a Desert

I arrived in Maine thinking I would spend most of my time taking in its beautiful coastline, but the first place I wound up seeing was Maine's desert. That's right--Maine has a desert. It's about 40 acres in size and it is near a town called Freeport. It seems that the desert developed because people over-farmed the land for generations, but when you see it now you see silt that may as well look like something from an entirely different part of the world. It was fascinating to say the least.

Maine and Its Coastline

Now that I had seen something totally unexpected in Maine, I figured it was time to see what Maine is known for, and that's its incredible coastline. I left from Portland and went to the coast, and it was truly amazing to see these rock formations and the gorgeous views. Scientists recently took measurements of the coastline and realized that there are more than 3,000 miles of it if you measure it in a linear fashion. I would have been happy to spend day after day exploring all of it, but there was a lot more I wanted to see while there.

Maine and The King of Horror

Anyone who loves horror books and films has most likely been exposed to Maine. I spent some time in Bangor, the hometown of Stephen King. He began his writing career while working as a teacher there, and quite a few of his works are set in small Maine towns. Walking around Bangor and nearby towns, I could see how the unique landscape set itself up nicely for suspense, as there really is nothing like it that I've seen anywhere else in the United States. While in Bangor, I also saw a huge statue of Paul Bunyan, as locals claim he was born here.

Maine and the Moose

When you think of moose, you tend to think of Alaska, or at least that's what comes to my mind. However, Alaska and Maine are thousands of miles apart and very different in just about every other way. That said, one thing they have in common is the moose. According to experts, more than 70,000 moose live in Maine, which is more than any other state in the country other than Alaska. I spent a day moose-watching and it was quite a memorable experience.

HotelTonight – Maine Hotels Are Available

As I made my way back to my hotel in Portland, I thought about all that I had seen while in this beautiful state. I had gotten to know its landscape, its wildlife and perhaps most importantly its friendly people. I promised myself that I would come back here someday to see more of it, and I would do so with the help of HotelTonight, as this powerful app helped me find Maine hotel rooms whenever I needed one. In fact, I will travel with HotelTonight wherever I happen to go in the future.
