Where to stay in Sioux City

HotelTonight – Sioux City Hotels

Sioux City, Iowa may not be at the top of most travelers' bucket lists, but this Midwestern town is much more interesting and more exciting than you might expect. I recently embarked on a cross-country road trip and found myself in Sioux City for a lunch break and fuel stop. After spending just a couple of hours in Sioux City, I decided to extend my stay so that I could further explore this town. I wanted to learn more about Sioux City, its culture and locals, so I pulled up the HotelTonight app on my phone and booked a hotel in Sioux City just like that. Whenever I travel now, HotelTonight is my go-to resource for booking hotels, since it always makes it so simple to find great deals on last-minute hotels. With a hotel room waiting for m in the heart of Sioux City, I headed straight to the hotel to check in. I wasted no time dawdling, since I wanted to have as much time to explore Sioux City as possible.

Fourth Street

The Fourth Street Historic District is located in downtown Sioux City. This historic district is comprised of many historic buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and architecture lovers will be impressed by the Romanesque Revival architecture throughout the neighborhood. While Fourth Street is steeped in history, it's also full of modern energy. Today, the district is a hotspot for restaurants and bars, and it's where locals go for a fun night out. So if you want to admire beautiful old architecture and enjoy a craft cocktail at the same time, you can't miss Fourth Street during your stay in Sioux City.

Parks

There are so many different parks in the Sioux City area that it can be hard to decide which to visit. After all, there is Stone State Park, Bacon Creek Park, Trinity Heights and Ponca State Park, just to name a few. I ended up checking out Stone and Ponca, both of which feature miles of great hiking trails, beautiful views and an abundance of untouched natural scenery. While I like living in big cities, I certainly do envy Sioux City locals for all of the gorgeous nature they have in their backyard.

The Riverfront

Sioux City is built around the Missouri River, so naturally there are a number of great riverfront parks, trails and dining options to enjoy. Riverfront Park is a popular spot for locals to get in some exercise and soak in the beautiful views of the river, so I decided to act like a local during my short stay and went for a morning run along the well maintained riverfront trails. Some locals even told me that Sioux City is working on revamping its riverfront areas in the next few years, so it will soon become an even more desirable place for locals to hang out.

Museums

When you think of Sioux City, you may not immediately think of history and museums, but I quickly discovered that there are many great museums in this city. There's the Sioux City Public Museum, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, the Milwaukee Railroad Museum and more. Sioux City has a rich history, since it was a stop on Lewis and Clark's expedition, and the city is quite proud of it. Since I wanted to learn more about Lewis and Clark's journey and their connection to Sioux City, I visited the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, where I learned so much more than I expected about the westward expansion of America.

The Arts

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I was actually surprised by Sioux City's impressive art scene. This city in Iowa actually has a lot to offer in terms of the visual and performing arts, such as the Sioux City Art Center, the Tyson Events Center and the LAMB Arts Regional Theatre. From live music to theater to visual arts, Sioux City actually has quite an exceptional offering of the arts, so I made sure to pop into the Sioux City Art Center while I was in town.

HotelTonight – Last-Minute Hotel Deals in Sioux City

Sioux City surprised me in more ways than one. I never actually expected to like the city as much as I did, and I was so glad I extended my stay so that I could really explore Sioux City. This trip reminded me to never judge a city before you visit, because you never know how you may fall in love with its energy and culture once you're there. I was grateful that I had HotelTonight at my fingertips, because it made it so easy for me to find a hotel in Sioux City on a whim. Without the convenience of HotelTonight, I may not have stayed an extra day in Sioux City, and I would have missed out on arguably my favorite stop on my road trip.
