HotelTonight – Hotel in Downtown Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids is the second largest city in Iowa, and it prides itself on its friendliness, natural beauty and great selection of delicious food. I recently had the chance to visit Cedar Rapids, and since it was my first time in Iowa, I wanted to make sure I really experienced the city from a local's perspective. To do that, I decided to stay in the heart of Cedar Rapids, so I checked out HotelTonight's selection of downtown Cedar Rapids hotels. In not much time, I had booked a great hotel in the center of downtown, which meant that I would be walking distance to some of the city's hottest bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. As soon as I checked into the hotel and dropped off my luggage, I set out on foot to explore this welcoming Midwestern city.
The River
Downtown Cedar Rapids is located along the Cedar River, a wide, impressive river that winds through Iowa. All throughout Cedar Rapids, there are great walking trails, wooded areas and shady parks located along the river, and locals take advantage of this natural beauty whenever the weather is nice. Not only are there great riverfront paths in downtown Cedar Rapids, but there are also a handful of eateries located along the river, so you can enjoy a delicious meal with a picturesque view of the Cedar River.
Arts and Culture
Like most cities, the heart of Cedar Rapids' entertainment scene is located in its downtown. This neighborhood is home to performing arts theaters, movie theaters, concert venues and museums, so there's certainly no shortage of things to do or see while in downtown Cedar Rapids. I ended up catching a show at the historic Paramount Theater one night, and as I mingled with locals enjoying their night out, I began to get a great feel for the lifestyle and culture in this Iowa town.
Nightlife
If you want to enjoy the nightlife of Cedar Rapids, you'll need to make your way downtown. This is where locals go when they want to enjoy a couple cocktails, go dancing or listen to live music. Since I was staying within walking distance of several local watering holes, I decided to test them out for myself and see what the Cedar Rapids nightlife scene was really like. It turns out that Cedar Rapids locals are relaxed about their bars, which provides a laidback, feel-good vibe wherever you go.
