HotelTonight – Downtown Indianapolis Hotels
Indianapolis is one of the jewels of the Midwest. It's not only home to perhaps the most famous auto race in the world, but there is a lot more going on here that many people are not fully aware of until they see it for themselves. I remember falling in love with Indianapolis the first time I was here and promised myself that I'd see more of it as I came back again for work. Fortunately, I have that opportunity with my current job, and on my last trip I decided I was going to take an extra day to look around for myself. I knew I'd be back here again, so the first neighborhood I chose to explore was downtown. It was a fantastic day, as it's always nice to take your time and visit a place without any stress. I got to know a lot more about what makes this city tick, and of course I didn't have to worry about finding a downtown Indianapolis hotel room when I was ready to call it a day. That's because I had my trusty HotelTonight app with me, and it always finds me lodging the second I need it.
The Look
When I visit the downtown of a large city, I expect that I'll see a lot of high-rises, a lot of people running around while at work, traffic and concrete. Downtown Indianapolis is a bit different. Yes, there is the modernity that you would expect, but there's also a touch of history present in the form of beautiful older buildings that have to date back at least a century. Parts of this neighborhood have been preserved very nicely, and that's a great thing to see in any community.
The People
They say that the people in the Midwest are about the nicest you'll meet anywhere in the United States. While there is no tangible scorecard for this attribute, what I can say is that I totally understand what they mean when they say that. This is especially true in Indianapolis. I got a bit lost while walking around, and in many places this would be a big problem. Not so there, as a nice lady came right up to me and asked me how she could help. Not only did she point me in the right direction, but she walked me to where I needed to go.
The Restaurants
If you're in Indiana, you're not far from farm country. If you're near farm country, you're going to enjoy great produce and some really nice meat. I was ready for a steak after walking around all day, and I found a place that had great reviews by locals. Those locals were correct. The porterhouse I had was sublime. It was cooked perfectly, seasoned with a flavor I still can't forget and it was served with steamed garden vegetables that could have been its own meal.
