HotelTonight – Westwood Hotels in Seconds
I'm in Los Angeles all the time for work, but work is usually all I have time to do while I'm there. It's always bothered me that my weeks in Los Angeles have basically involved going to work during the day and going to dinner at or near the hotel at night. On my most recent trip, I made it happen so that I could stay another day, and the one area I wanted to explore above all others was Westwood. I have friends who went to school there and who rave about it, so it was time for me to see what all the buzz was about. A Unique Sort of College Town
Of course, the most famous landmark in Westwood is the campus of the University of California at Los Angeles, or UCLA as it's known around the world. Given its importance here, it's easy to see why this is thought of as a college town. However, it's a bit different here than in other college towns around the country. Specifically, Westwood is surrounded by Los Angeles as opposed to standing on its own. However, when you walk the streets of Westwood it's not uncommon to see young students sharing space with high-level professionals seamlessly.
The Trees
It's a strange thing to notice in the middle of a bustling community that's surrounded by an enormous metropolis, but one thing I kept noticing in Westwood was the way the trees perfectly complimented everything I saw and did. They provided shade in the right places, greenery where it was needed and of course beauty. I didn't expect to see this while here, and in fact was expecting a more concrete-centric scene. It was a nice surprise and one that helped me appreciate the fact that Westwood really is an oasis in the middle of Los Angeles.
The Food
Finally, I had to enjoy a dinner while here, and I asked around and got a nice tip on a local place that specialized in American pub food. That sounded perfect to me. I ordered some wings to start, and they were tasty and not too spicy, which was good. I followed that up with a nice pub burger that was big, juicy and not overloaded with too many toppings. I had a very refreshing beer to accompany this meal and I got to talk with some folks near my seat. It was a nice dinner.

As I made my way back to my hotel, I thought about how I had finally seen this part of Los Angeles and that I was glad I did so.
