Monarch Beach is a lovely little community located between Dana Point and Laguna Niguel, and in my opinion, this quiet beach town offers a little slice of paradise on the California coast. I was recently feeling drained and exhausted from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and I realized that I needed to take some sort of a getaway to relax and unwind. I started daydreaming about a weekend at the beach, and that's how I ended up at Monarch Beach. I searched HotelTonight for a hotel in Orange County, and after a few minutes of browsing the large selection of great last-minute hotels, I found a beautiful hotel in Monarch Beach. I didn't hesitate to book the hotel, and just a few minutes later, I was already packing a bag for my spontaneous beach getaway.
The Beach
Monarch Beach is located within the city of Dana Point, thus it boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California. The wide, sandy beach of Monarch Beach feels like a private little oasis, and I spent most of my weekend enjoying the most picturesque beaches in Orange County. There are a number of highly rated beaches in and around Monarch Beach, including Salt Creek Beach and Strand Beach, that I was more than happy to explore during my beach weekend.
Outdoor Activities
When you visit a beach resort town in Southern California, you should expect to spend a great deal of time outdoors, soaking up the California sunshine and enjoying the breathtaking natural beauty. I certainly made the most of the perfect weather during my stay by going surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking and even golfing. I tried to spend as much time in the sunshine as I could, and because of that I left feeling refreshed, rested and a lot more energetic (but also a little sad to be leaving such a beautiful beach town).
The Bay Plaza
Monarch Beach is a quiet, laidback beach town, so there's no bustling downtown area or entertainment hub. There is, however, a couple of great shopping and retail centers, where locals go to grab food and enjoy some quality shopping. My favorite shopping center in Monarch Beach was the Bay Plaza, where I found adorable shops and fantastic restaurants. I also met several locals at this lovely little shopping plaza, and they offered me great suggestions on where to eat and what to do during my stay in Monarch Beach.
