HotelTonight – Downtown Vancouver Hotels at the Ready
Is there any other city in the world where you can feel like you're in the ultimate place of modernity while still feeling as though you could almost reach out and touch pristine wilderness, such as you can in Vancouver? I'm not sure there is, but as much as I always looked forward to spending time here, I always felt some regret as well because I never gave myself any real time to explore the city. Recently, I had to head over there again for work and decided that this was going to be the time I got to learn more about this city. I extended my flight home out by a day and figured the best place to start exploring Vancouver was to spend that 24 hours downtown. I wasn't worried about lodging, as I had HotelTonight on my phone and knew I could find a downtown Vancouver hotel room within seconds if necessary.
The Culture
Downtown Vancouver is as much diverse of cultures as any city in the United States you will find. As I walked down the street, I happened to notice that there were a number of different languages being spoken by the people passing me. What I also found was that despite all of these different languages, everyone was friendly and accepting of each other. It was really something to see, and I made it a point to talk to as many people as possible. Canada really is home to the nicest people in the world.
The Cultural Options
Aside from the actual culture, downtown Vancouver is also home to a lot of different cultural options. I walked through no fewer than three different art galleries, and all of them were within a few blocks of each other. Science World is also right here, and that was a fascinating way to introduce your mind to new things. I also like sports, so I spent some time at the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame, learning about athletes that I may not have been familiar with but that are revered here.
The Cuisine
Vancouver is a destination spot for foodies, most likely because it's also a destination spot for chefs from all over the world. I had a very hard time choosing where to eat dinner, but once again, the extremely nice locals helped me out. I was told about a new gastropub just around the corner from where I was, and the tapas-style servings allowed me to try all sorts of different things from crab-meat sliders to crunchy salmon crisps. It was a gorgeous meal.
