HotelTonight – Hotel in Weirton West Virginia Today
This steel town is technically located in West Virginia, but it's also part of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area. Situated in the Northern Panhandle region of West Virginia, Weirton is close to major cities in both Pennsylvania and West Virginia, which is why it's a great place to stay if you want the charm of a small town as well as convenient access to major metropolises. To find the perfect hotel in Weirton during my recent trip to West Virginia, I simply pulled up the HotelTonight app on my phone. Whenever I need to find a hotel at a moment's notice, I rely on HotelTonight, which has become my favorite travel resource in recent years. Within minutes on the app, I had booked a great hotel in the heart of Weirton, so I plugged in the address on my phone and headed straight there to check in.
Hollidays Cove
In the late 1700s, a small town called Hollidays Cove was founded in what was then the state of the Virginia. Over the past couple hundred years, Hollidays Cove evolved, and today it's the heart of downtown Weirton. While the neighborhood has grown substantially, the historical charm of this small town remains. Downtown Weirton is the place to go if you want to truly understand the history and heritage of Weirton, but it's also a great place to visit if you want to shop at locally owned stores and if you want to indulge in a great meal.
Historic Sites
Given its long history, it's no surprise that Weirton boasts many buildings and sites that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. If you're interested in beautiful old architecture or American history (particularly that of an old steel town), you should check out some of notable historic sites while in Weirton, such as the Johnston-Truax House, the People's Bank, the Maryland Heights Park and the Dr. George Rigas House.
Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh is so close to Weirton that many people with jobs in Pittsburgh choose to commute from Weirton, where they can enjoy the perks of living in a small town without sacrificing their careers. Since Pittsburgh is only 35 miles away from Weirton, I decided to take the drive into the big city myself, and I spent the evening doing as many Weirton locals do – enjoying the excitement and entertainment of the city before driving back to the peace and comfort of their small town.
