HotelTonight – Troutdale, Oregon Hotels
When I've traveled in large cities around the United States in the past and gotten to experience a bit of the suburbs, I've often found them to be very nice, quiet and safe communities filled with families and a pace of life that's extremely comfortable. Generally speaking, suburbs are put in places where there is a lot of room to grow, which means that there aren't always a lot of natural attractions within their boundaries. I had heard some different things about the communities just on the outside of Portland, Oregon when I've traveled there in the past, but I've never had any time to explore them. On my last trip there, I wound up with an extra day to myself due to a mistake in the scheduling of my return flight. I could've stayed in Portland and had a lot of fun there as I always have, but I wanted to see one of these communities. I decided to spend my extra day in the community of Troutdale. I wasn't concerned about lodging, either, as I always travel with my HotelTonight app. I'd book a Troutdale, Oregon hotel room when I was ready.
The History
I stopped in a coffee shop when I got to town, as I wanted to recharge a bit and perhaps talk to some locals. I wound up speaking with a few people who have coffee there often, and I got some history on Troutdale. A sea captain bought the town's initial land claim not long after the Civil War, and he named it Troutdale because of all of the trout ponds that were there. Many of them still are, by the way. Since then, Troutdale has grown to a population of just over 16,000 people, but most of the natural beauty that was there so long ago remains.
The Fishing
I love to fish. I will always make time to fish, but since I was in a metropolitan area and there on business I didn't plan on fishing in Troutdale. No problem, as it turned out, as there are a lot of shops there with gear. I was told about a stream that's great for catching – of course – trout, so I went out and reeled in quite a few. This area is teeming with aquatic life because it sits where the Sandy and the Columbia rivers converge.
The Dining
After all of that fishing, I wanted to have seafood for dinner. I walked around the lovely little town and asked for a recommendation. I was told about a restaurant that was known for its local seafood, so that's where I went. I had, naturally, the trout, and it was cooked perfectly in a white wine sauce with lemon. It was a simple but delicious dish, as the fish itself was so beautiful there was no reason to dress it up too much.
