HotelTonight – Parachute, CO Hotels
I like to think of driving on Interstate 70 as an adventure, particularly when I'm doing so in Colorado. That's because you see so many different things that include plains, flat lands, badlands, mountains, valleys and just about anything else you could imagine. I have also seen just about every type of weather one could experience while on the stretch of road that runs through Colorado, so I was generally prepared for anything when I drove to our out of Denver. On my last trip to that part of the world, I was headed west out of Denver when I heard on the radio that there was a bad storm about 50 miles ahead of me. I called the office, and they told me to turn around. I didn't want to do that. Instead, I decided to stop right there, as I was near a town called Parachute. That sounded interesting. I was going to spend the rest of that day exploring this community. I wasn't concerned about finding a place to stay, as I travel with my HotelTonight app. I'd book a Parachute, CO hotel room as soon as I was ready to call it a night.
Downtown
Parachute is a small town. Just over 1,000 people call it home, but I find that to be a positive quality in a community. As I pulled into downtown, I immediately got that small-town feel about the place. The buildings were all about two stories high at the most, they were almost all made of brick and the main drag was extremely clean and well maintained. The people of the town were all milling about, but everyone seemed to have time to stop and talk to each other for a minute. Everyone also found the time to greet me warmly.
The Hiking
It was obvious that I was somewhere beautiful, so I wanted to enjoy it to the fullest. The weather looked fine to me, so I jumped on a hiking trail that wasn't far from town. What a hike it was. I soon found myself climbing the foothills of a nearby mountain, looking down at the town below and at the other mountain peaks in the area. I saw enormous hawks and eagles flying overhead. I saw streams that looked perfectly clean. I took a bunch of photos and finally headed back to town feeling hungry.
The Dining
I was surprised at the number of choices available for dinner in such a small community. I had heard about a Mexican food place earlier in the day, so that's where I went to eat. The decor was pretty authentic, but the food was extremely authentic. I had the carne asada burrito along with a nice pile of chips and salsa, and it was not only spicy and tasty but very filling. The place was packed as well, so it's obviously a hit in Parachute with the locals.
