HotelTonight – Find Great Deals in San Bernardino Today

The sprawling metropolis of San Bernardino sits beneath the beautiful Southern California mountain ranges, and it's best known for its location on the historic Route 66 and for its diverse natural landscape. The great outdoors around San Bernardino have attracted nature lovers and outdoors enthusiasts for countless years now, as the city is both a gateway to the desert and to the mountains. With so many different types of terrain just a stone's throw away from San Bernardino, this city is a great destination for anybody looking to explore as much of Southern California's natural landscapes as possible. So when I looked at my calendar and finally saw a free weekend, I decided to take a last-minute adventure to San Bernardino, where I knew I would be able to make the most of my time outdoors as well as embrace the town's history and unique entertainment scene. To book my last-minute hotel in San Bernardino, California, I simply pulled up the HotelTonight app on my phone. After a couple of minutes of scrolling, I had booked the perfect hotel in the heart of San Bernardino, and I was ready to embark on an exciting new Southern California adventure.

Route 66

San Bernardino sits along the iconic Route 66, so naturally the town is home to a number of historic landmarks. Since I'm a bit of a history buff and wanted to drive back in time on Route 66, I decided to visit some of these landmarks, which include the building that was home to the first ever McDonald's, the iconic California Theatre that dates from 1928, and the famous Wigwam Motel, among others. These stops are legendary along Route 66, and I felt like I was able to soak in a bit of Southern California history just by taking a short drive.

Rim of the World Highway

If you're visiting San Bernardino by car, you can't miss the chance to drive the Rim of the World Highway, a scenic alpine route that winds through the Southern California mountains. This drive offers beautiful vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys, and it gave me a great feel for the geography of this area. I wouldn't recommend taking a leisurely drive on this mountain during the winter, though, when this winding road is snowy and icy.

Museums

You may assume that you have to go to Los Angeles or San Diego to experience some of Southern California's best museums, but San Bernardino actually has a surprisingly impressive offering of museums. Here you will find the beloved Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, which features many ancient Egyptian items and ancient African and Mediterranean art. My favorite museum in the area, though, is the San Bernardino History and Railroad Museum, which will thrill anyone interested in the history of transportation. This museum showcases historic items related to transportation, specifically transportation in San Bernardino and Southern California, which means there are a lot of cool model trains and even horse-drawn buggies to see up close in person.

Entertainment

San Bernardino is a much sleepier town than Los Angeles, but that doesn't mean it's boring. There's actually plenty to do and see in San Bernardino, and this Inland Empire city actually has a great assortment of live entertainment. Two of the best performing arts venues in the city are the California Theatre of the Performing Arts and the James and Aerianthi Coussoulis Arena. San Bernardino regularly hosts all types of performing arts events, from ballets to rock shows, so locals certainly have plenty of great entertainment options at their fingertips.

Sports and Recreation

If there's one thing you'll find plenty of in San Bernardino, it's sports and outdoor recreation. Not only does San Bernardino have San Manuel Stadium, home of the Inland Empire 66ers baseball team, but it's also ideally located for outdoor recreation of all kind, but particularly motorsports. If you want to go ride ATVs, dirt bikes or go carts, there are plenty of places for you to get your adrenaline rush in San Bernardino.

HotelTonight – San Bernardino Hotels in Minutes

Prior to visiting San Bernardino, I just assumed that this was a small, quiet desert town, but it's actually so much more than that. Tucked beneath a beautiful mountain range and home to a number of great attractions and historic sites, San Bernardino consistently surprised me and entertained me during my short visit. I was so glad I chose to spend my weekend exploring the town of San Bernardino, and I already know that I will be back someday soon.
