Even though Fountain Valley is located in the middle of bustling Orange County, it has a warm, small-town community feel that makes it a favorite place for locals to live and raise families. I recently took a trip to southern California, and I wanted to get a feel for local life in the OC. So instead of staying in one of the more touristy locations in Orange County, I decided to stay at a hotel in Fountain Valley. This ended up being a great decision, because I got to know a whole new side of southern California, and I certainly developed a fondness for this small little town in the OC. Mile Square Park
Mile Square Regional Park is the pride of Fountain Valley. This beautiful, lush public park features two lakes, multipurpose sports fields, picnic areas, three golf courses and a community center. This is the heart of activity in Fountain Valley, and locals take full advantage of Mile Square Park for fitness and socializing. During my short stay in Fountain Valley, I visited Mile Square Park daily to run, bike, and even play a round of golf.
The Santa Ana River
There are so many beautiful outdoor areas in Southern California, and Fountain Valley certainly has no shortage of great public outdoor spaces. One of my favorite outdoor recreation spaces I found in Fountain Valley was the Santa Ana River Trail. This walking and biking trail winds along the Santa Ana River, and along the path I came across many locals enjoying the Southern California sunshine and the beautiful scenery.
The Beach
Fountain Valley is just a stone's throw away from some of Southern California's best beaches. I took advantage of Fountain Valley's proximity to the beach and enjoyed a long, sun-soaked afternoon at Huntington Beach. This area of California is home to so many beautiful beaches, and I knew I couldn't visit Orange County without enjoying some time at the beach. Fortunately, staying in Fountain Valley made it so easy for me to visit some of the best beaches in the area.

There are so many fun things to do and see throughout Orange County, and Fountain Valley provided the perfect home base for all of my OC adventures.
