Fullerton is arguably best known for its university, but it also has so many other sides that make it one of Orange County's loveliest little towns. With its idyllic Mediterranean climate and its proximity to some of Southern California's best attractions (such as Disneyland, Los Angeles and Newport Beach), Fullerton definitely deserves to be considered a vacation destination. The city is slightly off-the-beaten path, so you'll feel like you're getting a real, authentic Orange County experience when you visit Fullerton. That's certainly what happened to me on my recent trip to Anaheim. Downtown
The historic downtown Fullerton is full of charm, character and history. There are more than 70 historic buildings in this quaint downtown, which boasts shade trees and pretty little walkways, making it an idyllic place to go for a stroll. Of course, there's so much more to do in downtown Fullerton than just go for a leisurely walk. This district is the heart of life and entertainment in Fullerton, so it has plenty of great shops, restaurants and nightlife. Given that Fullerton is a university town, it's home to quite a vibrant nightlife that attracts locals from all over Orange County.
The Outdoors
Since Fullerton is located in such a beautiful part of Southern California, I knew I couldn't visit without getting active and exploring the outdoors. Fortunately for me, there are a lot of great public outdoor spaces in Fullerton that locals adore, such as the 26-acre Fullerton Arboretum. This botanical garden and green space features a network of pathways through the garden's collections, and it's the perfect place for a lovely afternoon walk. Other great outdoor spaces in Fullerton include the Fullerton Loop, the Panorama Nature Preserve and the Santa Ana River Trail.
Arts and Culture
As a whole, Southern California has a fantastic arts and entertainment scene, and Fullerton is no exception. This university town emphasizes the arts and culture, which you can find at venues like the Stages Theatre, the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, the Heritage House and the Maverick Theatre. From historic homes to impressive modern theaters, I was surprised by all of the art and culture I found in Fullerton.

For one, it's close to all of the main attractions in Southern California, but it's also a beautiful little town that offers plenty of its own attractions.
